CATHOLIC CHARITIES OF CORPUS CHRISTI, INC. RECEIVED A $28,000.00 GRANT FROM THE WALMART FOUNDATION
Funding to Increase enrollment in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the City of Corpus Christi, and Rural Areas
Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi, Inc. Rural Outreach Program has received a $28,000.00 grant from the Walmart Foundation to increase SNAP Enrollment in our servicing areas. It is estimated that approximately 25.3% of our clients live below the Federal Poverty Rate and 25% struggle to put food on the table.
This grant will facilitate the delivery of essential services including accessibility of emergency food in the following counties: Aransas, Bee, Brooks, Duval, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Live Oak, McMullen, Nueces, Refugio, and San Patricio. Catholic Charities estimates an increase of 17% in the number of people enrolled in SNAP as a result of the Foundations’ support.
“The reality is that many in our community are living 80% below the Area Median Income, experiencing food insecurity and hunger.”
Food Insecurity is the limited or uncertain availability of adequate and safe foods for a family or an individual. Throughout our 12 County areas, it is estimated that approximately 25% of our children and families experience food insecurity.
Hunger is referring to the recurrent and involuntary lack of access to sufficient food due to poverty or constrained resources, which often lead to malnutrition especially among our children and elderly. Throughout our 12 County area, it is estimated that approximately 17.8% experience hunger one to three days per month.
In 2016, Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi distributed 2,410,263 pounds of food
We are providing assistance to families and individuals in need of completing and submitting a SNAP application in English and Spanish.
To enroll for SNAP benefits, call for an appointment and bring the following documentation. You must have an appointment.
Two (2) forms of ID: Birth Certificate, Passport, Military Identification Card, Driver's License, Picture ID, Social Security Cards for ALL household members.
Income Verification: Unemployment Benefits, Social Security Benefits, Disability Benefits, Retirement Income, Paystubs, and other income.
Expense Deductions: Rent, Utilities, Electricity, Insurance, Car Payment, and other monthly bills you may have.

We are providing assistance to families and individuals in need of completing and submitting a free cell phone program application in English and Spanish.
The Cell Free Phone Program which provides a free cell phone, 500 free minutes for the first 4 months, and unlimited texts every month.
To qualify, you must be enrolled in SNAP, Medicaid, CHIPS, or SSI.
